7 Holiday Gifts for Food Lovers!

If you’re  still trying to finish your holiday shopping, here are some suggestions (all favorites of mine!) for the cooks on your list. From $4.99 for a unique little metal pot scrubber that would make a great stocking stuffer to $99.99 for a six pound gift pack of pulled pork barbecue from Corky’s Barbecue in Memphis (where I grew up!), each is special. All are available online–an easy way to shop when the weather in so much of our country is unpredictable!

Stonewall Kitchen Towels

I discovered these towels, which are so soft you could wrap a baby in them, while teaching at Stonewall Kitchen in Maine. They launder beautifully even though they curl along the ends slightly after the first wash. That’s never bothered me (and doesn’t affect their great absorbency). They are white and with a colored border that comes in varying hues.

Stonewall Kitchen Tea Towels. $5.95. Available online and in stores.

Metal Scrubbing Brush

Brushtech’s petit metal scrubbing brush is a tool I use every day to clean my pots and pans. Its scrubbing power is amazing, and It takes up only a small amount of storage (unlike other bulkier brushes or balls). Just don’t use them on your fine china, they’ll take the decorations right off! Great as a stocking stuffer!

Brushtech Same as Steel Wool Brush. $4.99 (most retailers). Available online and in specialty cookware stores such as Sur la Table.

Tre Olive Olive Oils

Tre Olive, a small company producing high quality olive oils from their estates in Italy, is a new discovery for me.  Although they are primarily an online retailer, they recently opened a store in East Long Meadow, Ma.  You can choose from a  variety of olive oils, some scented with lemon and chili. Their trio samplers of three oils would make a terrific gift for both beginning and experienced cooks. Yes, you could just pop into the nearest grocery store and pick up some olive oil, but the quality and taste of Tre Olive is worth a little extra effort.

Tre Olive Fratelli Sampler. $34.99. Available online or at their store in East Longmeadow, MA.

Emile Henri Casseoles

While writing Sunday Casseroles, Emile Henri baking dishes quickly became my favorites. I love their rustic, country look and their ability to keep food exceptionally warm for a long time. Although glazed clay pans like these can lend themselves to chipping, mine have held up well after plenty of use. These are a little pricy, so if you can only get one, I’d recommend the Emile Henry Artisan Rectangular Baker.

Emile Henry Artisan Rectangular Baker.  $84.95. Available online or in stores at Wms Sonoma

Hungry for France

For Francophiles on your list, this book, which I reviewed earlier this year, is the answer to your gift problems.  The author, an American food critic based in Paris, takes readers on a tour around France highlighting the specialties of each province along with his favorite restaurants in each region! The photos are gorgeous and the accompanying text delightful. Warning: This book will make you want to book that trip to France.

Hungry For France by Alexander Lobrano $32.23  Available through his website (he links to Amazon, Barns and Noble, and Indiebound) and in bookstores.

Corky’s Barbecue from Memphis

I grew up in Memphis, considered one of the barbecue capitals of the South, and though I don’t get back often, I order pulled pork from Corky’s, the #1 place in the city for ribs, pulled pork, and more. For barbecue fans on your list, there’s an array of products, but I always opt for the six one-pound packages of pulled pork that cost $99 (including shipping) and feed 18 easily. The shipping is quick and efficient, and the pulled pork packages can easily be frozen for later use.

Corky’s Six Pounds of Pulled Pork. $99.99 Call 1-800-926-7597 or available online

And…...Sunday Casseroles!!

Of course, no holiday list of mine would be complete without mentioning my newest book–Sunday Casseroles!  (Sorry, readers, but I love this latest collection.)  Filled with recipes perfect for the cold days of winter accompanied by mouthwatering photos, this book is so reasonably priced, you can pick it up for anyone (or everyone) on your list!

Sunday Casseroles. $21.27 Available online and in bookstores.
